Depression/ Seasonal Affected Disorder (SAD)

Depression is a debilitating illness suffered by many people at various times of their life and can re-occur often. Depression not only affects the individual but those closely associated with them, friends, family, fellow employees.

SAD is a specific type of depression that affects many people during the autumn and winter months of the year. Also known as “winter blues” there is a causal link between the number of daylight hours and the level of depression in sufferers of SAD. Therapy which helps the sufferer to relax, accept their illness and cope with its limitations is extremely useful to people affected by SAD.

Depressed people often do not seek help for their condition and go through life thinking that being depressed is part of their personality. No one wants a life dependant upon anti-depressants. It is important that you do not feel that your depression is inconsequential and that you should go on living with in.

A lack of motivation that sometimes accompanies depression makes it easier (less effort required) to go with the negative effects of depression and fall into the spiral of increased depression.

Making the first step towards breaking this cycle of depression is often the hardest part and the earlier you can halt this cycle the better for you.

Identifying that you are depressed and taking a step in a positive direction can be the start of regaining the old happier self you once were, or the start of a whole new you full, of life and wonder of the world around you.

Hypnotherapy can be utilised alongside antidepressants or as an alternative to medication. Before any course of hypnotherapy consultation with a GP about depression is highly advised.

Assertions use many different techniques in the recovery of depression looking at thoughts and feelings, past experiences, motivation, representations and attitudes towards daily routines. Setting goals and looking forward to a brighter more promising future.

Make changes that make you happier.

Habits

Habits can be difficult to break especially if they have been ingrained for a long time and can be a comforter for the various stresses, tension and anxieties we face in life. Some habits can be beneficial (daily exercise for example) but some habits are unnecessary, these can include.

Hypochondria/ health anxiety disorder (HAD)

Hypochondria can have a detrimental effect on the sufferer and can appear in varying degrees of health anxiety, from a constant feeling of illness (colds, back ache) right through to loss of use of legs and the feeling that a heart attack is imminent or thoughts of serious disease. These thoughts of illness continue through repeated medical evaluation and examination. The way people with hypochondria behave in relation to their symptoms and beliefs can increase their anxiety. Excessive body checking (taking  temperature etc..) can provide inconsistent results and lead to more anxiety.

Assertions can help with Health Anxiety Disorder by addressing cognitive issues of health, by reframing previous notions of health and looking forward to living healthy free of anxieties. Imagine yourself free of the constriants of illness, able you enjoy relationships, work, and every aspect of your life without having to worry anymore.

Consultation with a GP is recommended before hypnotherapy.

There are many other unwanted habits individual to each person. Habits can be seen as a coping strategy to other problems that may have developed in a time of stress but still linger on reaffirming inner conflict. Maybe the problem is still currently affecting you and your habit is in turn triggering the stress levels in you.

Assertions can break unwanted habits because it works at the subconscious level where habits are formed. By boosting confidence and lowering stress and anxiety levels you can move away from bad, negative habits and gain a new positive control of your actions.
