Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
One in six Britons is affected by IBS with ¾ of those being women. Irritable Bowel syndrome is the name for a collection of otherwise unexplained symptoms relating to a disturbance of the large bowel. These may include:
-Abdominal cramps and pain
-Rumbling noises and excessive wind
-Urgency to use the toilet, especially if there is not one nearby
-Reflux acid
-Bloating and swelling of the abdomen
-Headaches
-Dizziness
-Backache
-Muscle and joint pains indigestion
-Nausea
-Anxiety
-Depression
Stress can be a catalyst for IBS so reducing stress level may well improve digestion. Hypnosis is extremely effective in the treatment of IBS as there can be a psychological as well as biological basis for the condition.
Assertions will look at diet, lifestyle, negative emotions and cognitions (thoughts) inner representations and behavioural responses to help you alleviate this condition without the use of prescribed drugs.
Consult with your GP for any of these symptoms before taking hypnotherapy.
Sometimes it is difficult to let something go in your life or you have thoughts that others are conspiring against you, enjoying themselves more out of your company and getting a generally better deal in life than you are. At these times jealousy can rear its head and cause you to feel strong emotions of anger, inadequacy, panic or anxiety. By acting jealous we can push away the things that we are desperately trying not to loose; this then in turn makes us feel even worse. Jealousy can be detrimental to relationships when even the slightest quick glance at a member of the opposite sex can cause them to become angry.
Hypnotherapy and NLP techniques can help you to control your jealousy, to remain calm and stop you from imagining worst case scenarios. Learn to appreciate what you have got in life and not be bothered by others apparent better lifestyles.
Rise above jealousy and have more control in your life!
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
With OCD a particular thought, notion or coping strategy dominates all other thoughts, this can be washing hands, cleaning work surfaces, checking doors are locked amongst others.
These obsessions occur repeatedly over and over and you may feel that they are out of your control, disturbing and intrusive to everyday life affecting family relationships and ability to function properly in everyday life. The obsessive compulsive usually recognises that the obsession or compulsion doesn’t really make sense
To make their obsessions go away people with OCD perform compulsions. Compulsions are acts the person performs over and over again, often according to certain rules and proceedures. Turning off lights again and again before going to bed to make sure no spark of electricity will burn the house down or continuously washing and cleaning. OCD compulsions do not give the person pleasure. Rather, the rituals are performed to obtain relief from the discomfort caused by the obsessions.
Some disorders that closely resemble OCD and may respond to some of the same treatments. They are trichotillomania (compulsive hair pulling), body dysmorphic disorder (imagined ugliness), and habit disorders. Stress can make OCD worse.
Assertions use CBT, NLP and hypnotherapy together to work through obsessional thoughts releasing obbessions and replacing them with positive life enhancing imagery that will help you go forward with inner strenght. By using thought stopping techniques or shifting unwanted thought patterns away the obsessive compulsive can regain their life or create a new future for themselves. Use thoughts and notions to enhance your life rather than confine you in a prison of negative emotion.
Hypnosis is effective in controlling and relieving pain and can use a number of different approaches.
-Direct suggestion
(straight out being told that the pain will diminish)
-Glove anaesthesia
(numbness in hand transferred to other parts of the body)
-Altering the pain
(changing an internal representation of the pain)
-Altering qualities of pain
(sharp to dull, prickly to tingles etc...)
-Control of anticipatory anxiety (relaxation to relieve stress/fear associated to pain)
-Imagery
(dependant upon each individual, IE gentle waves washing pain away)
-Dissociation
(moving away from pain as if it does not belong to you)
Pain is a subjective experience and depending on the person can range from mild irritation to chronic excruciating pain.
Pain is a complex experience of sensing, feeling and thinking. When pain messages reach your brain two components determine how you respond
Physical sensation: is the pain dull, sharp, tearing, aching etc.
Psychological state: memories and reactions to past painful experiences, representations of injury. (For example when you cut yourself and do not know until you see the cut then suddenly it hurts)
Pain treatments include
